Sterile water injection for back pressure
My Alternative Birth Options Series: Part 4 of 4
I’ve done a small amount of investigating to see if hospitals in the Atlanta area are offering sterile water injections for back pressure during labor. Unfortunately, they are not. Intown Midwifery reports that they would like to make this available for their patients because their midwives have used this successfully in the past, but Atlanta Medical Center does not provide it. Northside Hospital also does not provide it.
Here is a study with more information on how this simple tool works. Find out who the director of women’s services is at your hospital and call them or send them an email including this link. Let them know that you’d like hospitals to provide more alternatives to the epidural so that women can more easily labor out of bed and benefit from gravity to bring their babies down through the pelvis.
