Sometime between 12 to 20 weeks pregnant is when many people settle into pregnancy and begin to think about the birth. And a lot of us have an “oh, shit!” moment. There are so many misconceptions around birth in the U.S. that if we took to heart most of what our spheres of influence have to say about it, we would never dare to consider taking a natural birth class. If you’re looking for a way to learn to love birth rather than merely survive it, consider taking my natural birth class in Sterling, Va.
In my four years in practice as a doula, I continue to be amazed by the nearly impossible-to-believe natural birth stories that have happened as a result of the commitment level of my students. Though I’ve taught well over 100 expectant parents by now, this has very little to do with my skills as an educator. It does have everything to do with the effectiveness of the Hypnobabies method. If you think you might want to try for a natural birth, read on.
Do or do not. There is no try. –Yoda
One of the most common misconceptions you’ll hear about birth is that we have no control over it. There is an element of truth to this, however I can assure you that having a comfortable and easy natural birth without any preparation whatsoever is rare.
What’s interesting to think about is that there are several key results that are much more desirable than a completely natural birth on its own. Health and safety, a trusting relationship with our healthcare provider, as well as the way we are treated at our prenatal appointments and during our labor, are all infinitely more important than whether we had an epidural or a surgical birth. However, I want you to know that you can and should expect to have all of that while also gaining the benefits of learning about natural birth and finding out whether it is going to be a good match for you and your baby. And if you’re currently experiencing a healthy pregnancy, I can tell you there is no reason to assume that it won’t be.
So what about the pain? In truth this is a much more complicated topic than we’ve been led to believe. Some people simply don’t experience birth as all that painful and others do. The curriculum I teach has several key strengths which I believe are what allows a much higher-than-average number of people to experience natural birth as manageable, easy, and even comfortable.
The major strengths are:
- A carefully curated method from the field of hypnotherapy which teaches you how to lessen your stress response to the very powerful sensations of birth
- A specific coursework which, when used as directed, prepares your mind, body and spirit to look forward to birth without fear
- A well-researched and thorough birth education, leaving you knowledgeable about your choices and what to expect as your body goes through this incredible transformation
Although I’m very happy to offer a general workshop style childbirth class for those who need a one-day option, if you have somewhere between 8 and 28 weeks left between the start date of class and your estimated due date, I highly encourage you to make an investment in the most in-depth preparation you can possibly have. While there are always going to be genetic or other unexpected factors in birth, natural birth surprisingly doesn’t need to be as elusive as it currently is in our culture. Come to a natural birth class in Sterling, Va. I would love to show you how.
